'Rip' Collins, first baseman with the St. Louis Cardinals, is one of the best all around players on the team. Last year, playing in 132 games Collins batted .310, and ranked with the leaders in fielding his position. Collins throws left-handed, although he bats from either side of the plate. He is 5 feet, 9 inches tall, and moves the weights at 165 pounds. He was secured by the Cardinals from the Rochester Club in the International League, where in 1930, he belted the ball at a .376 clip in 167 games, and smashed out 40 home runs. Collins was born in Altoona, Pa. in 1905. Lou Gehrig by arrangement with Christy Walsh. This is one of the 1934 series of pictures of Big League baseball stars. Collect the entire series.
