Lafayette Street Methodist Episcopal Church
View of the Lafayette Street Methodist Episcopal Church, a wooden building that was moved from its original location on Woodward Avenue and Congress and dedicated anew in 1849, the last mass was held in 1873, with a Victorian house next door and a view of the street. Also have print from negative. Printed on albumen cabinet card back: "New series, panoramic and cabinet sketches, in and about the city of Detroit. Photographed and published by Jex Bardwell, 31 Monroe Avenue." Printed on albumen print mat front: "Lafayette Ave. M.E. Church, Detroit, (old 'Congress Street M.E. Church']. Built, 1834. Removed to Lafayette Ave. and Fourth St., 1849. Sold and vacated, 1873." Handwritten on albumen cabinet card back: "Old Lafayette St. M.E. Church, N.E. cor. Lafayette & Fourth in 1873. This church building was erected and for many years was on the northeast corner of Woodward Ave. & Congress Sts." Recorded in glass negative ledger: "D/Churches-Meth. Ep.-Lafayette Ave."
