Handwritten on back: "By 1875, a monstrosity architecturally and mechanically, was built in front of the old State Capitol. The entire group of buildings including a two-story one erected in the rear of the Capitol, burned down on January 27, 1893, much to the relief of the parents of the city; M.M.
