View of vine-covered Gothic revival house. Handwritten on back: "Home of Judge Samuel Townsend Douglas, Grosse Ile, Michigan, built 1860. A sister, Elizabeth Douglas married James Valentine Campbell, father of Edward de Mill Campbell. Daughters, Mary Douglas Anderson, died Grosse Ile. Elizabeth Campbell Douglas Hall, died 1955 at Ann Arbor. Architect - Mr. Gordon Lloyd, Englishman." Label on back: "Photographic sketches in and around the city of Detroit, consisting of street and marine views, public buildings, churches, monumental and other objects of interest, no. 500, photographed and published by Jex Bardwell."
