View near Thomas C. Starret residence
View looking down street near Thomas Starret residence; man stands on wooden sidewalk. Stamped in lower left corner in front: "J.B. Thomas." Handwritten on back: "June 24, 1907. Mr. Thomas C. Starret, 140 Canfield Ave. W., My dear Mr. Starret, We were talking about the growth of trees the other day, you can compare this photo with the trees as they appear in front of your house at this time. I made this negative about 1881-2. Second Ave. was unpaved at that time. The city was using gas for street lighting. See in lamp post in front of where Mr. McCauls(?) house stands. this photo was taken from the N.E. Cor. of 2d Ave. and Canfield looking west. Send you prints from these negs. I have one earlier in of but could not find it. Very cordially yours, John B. Thomas."
