Main room of Detroit Public Library, old building located on Gratiot Avenue. Long polished wooden tables and chairs with metal lamps on top. Pillars support series of wrought iron balconies on three upper floors, visible from main room, with bookshelves lining walls. Bust located above entranceway on second floor. Card catalog on first floor at left. Handwritten on back: "Detroit Public Library, main room, front door, card catalogue to left, ca. 1900."
