Second Empire brick house viewed at an angle across street; leafless trees in wooden frames and picket fence. Mansard roof; houses on both sides and other buildings behind. Stamped on mat back: "Farmer Bros., photographers, Detroit, Mich." Handwritten on mat back: "Mrs. James A Van Dyke, 308 Jefferson Ave., 1881." 1882 Detroit City Directory lists George W. Van Dyke at this address.
