Description
Beaux Arts entrance gate to Water Works Park, built 1893, designed by Gustav Adolphus Mueller and Herman Brede. Three-tiered triumphal arch with dome and staircases. Viewed at an angle from unpaved street. Metal fencing with caternary top edge on both sides, marked by pillars with lamps. Utility pole. Located at East Jefferson at Cadillac Boulevard. Hurlbut was a grocer and Detroit Water Commissioner; left most of his estate to the Board of Water Commissioners. Born 1803; died Sept 7 1885. Handwritten on mat back: "Architect, Gustav Mueller." Spot on photograph.
