Handwritten on back (some text is truncated): "No. 1 ... this photo for style and position of house. No. 2 for shading and coloring ... the large tree ... would advise putting the foliage on all trees same as in No 2 ... have such a bare look ... front doors are now in and you can ... the design ... correct all the faults of windows as they are not finished inside. Notice the shading and coloring on No. 2 ... very nice. For fine detail of carving and (?), see No. 2." Additional note: "Simon J. Murphy home at right." 1890 City Directory lists address as 1021 Woodward. Label on back: "S.W. corner Woodward & Putnam."
