Chene family house
Paneled Colonial-style house, with front door located on left side of structure. Printed on back: " ... a picture of the old homestead ... The homestead was located on the N.E. cor. of Chene and E. Jefferson. It was reported to me to have been built in 1848 by Mrs. Finn's grandfather. It was further reported that in building it he used a set of handmade tools, which were found by me in the house in 1940, when Mrs. Finn died. the lot that this house was located on was the last piece of property belonging to the Chene family, of the original plot of land (three arpents wide and one mile deep) given by the King of France in 1832 to the Chene ancestor who was with Cadillac when he founded Detroit. The original deed is among the documents already given to the BHC. Signed Charles F. Delbridge, Jr. Demolished 1947(?)" Handwritten on back: "Charles Chesnes or Chene Maicons, 788 Jefferson Ave., Detroit, Michigan, avec Marie Headwig Chene."
