Typed on photo back: "Livery stable, 946 Sixth St., Port Huron, Michigan, owned and operated by Daniel Jackson Erwin about 1886, said Daniel Jackson Erwin stands at entrance incline wearing grey derby hat, his foreman, William Barnes at head of white horse, a stableman, Frank La Forge at tail, a vehicle washer, Peter Matievy with ruber boots and arms akimbo, stands at right in archway, a four passenger canopy top surrey stands at right, a white hearse is show at left, the horse is one of a beautifully matched team used thereon, this was an exceptional establishment, especially for a small town of approximately fifteen thousand inhabitants."
