View of Catholic clergy gathered near the altar of the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Detroit, Michigan for the consecration rites and ceremony. To be consecrated building must be brick or stone and always be used as church. By Adrian Fuller, Free Press church writer. Consecration rites for Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament recently brought rarely used ancient ceremonies into use. The Most Rev. Allen J. Babcock, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Detroit and rector of the cathedral, officiated. Rites were carried out both inside and outside edifice beginning at 6 a.m. and ending four hours later. Canon law required the building to be 'stripped and empty' for consecration ceremony. His Eminence Edward Cardinal Mooney pontificated solemn mass of thanksgiving following the consecration celebrating 25 years as a bishop."
