View of Spanish-American War and Philippine Insurrection monument on Belle Isle. Bronze statue of soldier on granite base on the west side of monument; bronze statue of a sailor on east side of monument. Inscription reads: "Cuba, Porto Rico, erected by the people of Wayne County, Michigan in commemoration of the service of her volunteer sons in the Army, Navy and Marine Corps of the United States during the War with Spain, 1898-1902. China, Philippines, in commemoration of the volunteer services of Wayne County's sons during the Insurrection in the Philippines and the Chinese Relief Expedition, 1898-1902." The monument was designed by the Lloyd Bros. Co. and the statues executed by Allen G. Newman.
