Transcript: "To His Excy, The President of the United States. The undersigned members of the Legislature of Illinois take great pleasure in presenting [?] your kind consideration the name of our worthy fellow citizen, John A. Clark, of Stephenson County. We beg to say that Mr. Clark is a gentleman of high moral worth and possesses a high standing among his fellow citizens and one that gives a guarantee that any Confidence your Excellency may repose on him will be promptly and faithfully met.
