Virtually all the commerce of the Great Lakes, except that between Superior and Michigan, passes through the Detroit River. Immense freighters bearing their loads of ore, grain, coal, lumber and general merchandise are constantly in sight and this, added to the passenger steamers and ferry boats, makes the river front one of the most interesting points of the city.
