Passengers waiting for ferry
View of passenger steamers and ferries approaching dock on Detroit riverfront. Men and women stand on dock, waiting to board adjacent ferry. Printed on front: "Harbor scene, Detroit, Mich." Printed on back: "1266, The harbor. Virtually all the commerce of the Great Lakes, except that between Superior and Michigan, passes through the Detroit River. Immense freighters bearing their loads of ore, grain, coal, lumber and general merchandise are constantly in sight and this, added to the passenger steamers and ferry boats, makes the river front one of the most interesting points of the city. More tonnage passes this port during the year than that of any other port in the world." Handwritten on back: "Middleton, Mich. Dec. 9, 1911, Dear Mother, Your card came and am glad that you are better. I have had a bad cold this week and am very busy getting ready for Christmas. Good by, May. I sent Aunt Mary her cards." Card is postmarked December 9, 1911.
