Dolph Camilli, one of the hardest hitters in the National League, started his baseball career with San Francisco in 1926. He was purchased by the Chicago Cubs in 1933 as a replacement for the aging Charlie Grimm. The following year he was transferred to the Philadelphia Phils and was their regular first baseman until the start of the 1928 [1938] season, when he was traded to the Brooklyn Dodgers for Eddie Morgan, and a reported cash price of $45,000. Last year, with the Dodgers, he got 128 hits in 146 games. He drove in 100 runs, scoring 106 runs himself, for a batting average of .251.
