The next day after Lieutenant Michael Hric, Jr. died in the flaming wreckage of his four motored bomber near a South Dakota training field, his sister, Dorothy, started work on the P-47. 'I thought maybe my work would help a little to take his place,' Dorothy explained. 'Dad and I are trying together to take his place.' Lieut. Hric's father is B-17 wing tip worker Michael Hric. The tragedy of the death of his son has left its imprint on Hric. He isn't voluble about the flying Hric. 'He was just twenty-two,' Hric said. 'He graduated from the Business Institute with high honors. Before that he attended Lincoln High School. But he loved to fly. He loved airplanes. Hric is proud of the memory of his son. He is especially proud of the letter written Mrs. Hric by General W.H. Arnold, commander of the Army Air Forces, who wrote of the young Hric, 'he performed his duties as an officer in a painstaking manner and sedulously upheld the best traditions of the Army Air Forces.' Hric has another son in service. He is Corporal John Hric, how stationed at Fort Custer. Two more sons, Edward and Robert complete the Hric family."
