Portrait of Virgil Stallcup, shortstop for the Cincinnati Reds. Bowman series. Printed on back: "Virgil Stallcup. Shortstop, Cincinnati Reds. Born: Ravensford, N.C., Jan. 3, 1923. Height: 6-2. Weight: 178. Bats: right. Throws: right. Virgil hit .228 in 149 games in his rookie year, 1948, and upped his average to .254 last season. In 1947 he hit .340 for Jersey City. In a game against Baltimore that year he got 6 hits in six times at bat. Entered organized baseball in 1941 as third baseman, but switched to short the following season. Spent 3 years in service.
