Down in Sudlersville, Md., a farmer boy was playing on a high school team and dreamed of big league baseball and of the day when he would rate with Ty Cobb and the diamond heroes of the past. That boy was Jimmy Foxx and he, well, in 1933 they voted Jimmy Foxx the best player of the American League. Jimmy Foxx was only 18 years of age when he was bought by the Athletics in 1925 and was started on a career that has brought him big league fame. In 1932 he led the American League in runs scored, and in 1933 he led the League in batting with an average of .356 in 149 games. He started out as a catcher but now plays first base.
