View of the Michigan Book store on Bates. Building in center is being demolished. Other buildings beyond, including one with sign: "Michigan Book Store." Lantern slide image is cropped from printed version. Glass negative 1637 broken and discarded. Also have print from negative. Printed on cabinet card front: "The old 'University Buildings,' Bates Street." Handwritten on cabinet card front: "W. State N.W. Congress." Typed on label on cabinet card back: "The old University Building on the west side of Bates Street near Congress. This photograph was taken in November, 1858." Handwritten on cabinet card back: "Property of Silas Farmer, Detroit, Mich." Recorded in lantern slide ledger: "D/Colleges & Universities-University Building, U. of M. on Bates, c.1858."
