Typed on mat back: "The 18-ton copper boulder shown on the other side was found at the Menard mine in Northern Michigan in 1862. It had been moved by ancient miners forty-eight feet from its original bed. See Mich. Pioneer and historical soc. 27, p.265. Presented by Dr. Anna Brockway Gray." Handwritten on mat back: "The Big Mass found on the surface at the Menard. Resulted about 18 tons ingot."
