Description
Beaux Arts entrance gate to Water Works Park, built 1893, designed by Gustav Adolphus Mueller and Herman Brede. Three-tiered triumphal arch with dome and staircases. Viewed at an angle across street. Several people passing through ground-level gate. Located at East Jefferson at Cadillac Boulevard. Hurlbut was a grocer and Detroit Water Commissioner; left most of his estate to the Board of Water Commissioners. Born 1803; died Sept 7 1885. Handwritten on stock back: "Hurlbut Memorial Gate." Spots and tape marks on photograph.
