For immediate release. Safety on display. An inside look at safety is provided by this cutaway of a 1968 Javelin. The special display was created by American Motors for showing at the just-concluded convention of the Society of Automotive Engineers and now will be available for local display by American Motors-Rambler dealers. When on display the car has labels calling attention to 49 safety features on AM cars, only 26 of which are required by Federal law. American Motors has a noted record of pioneering safety features. It introduced all-welded body construction in 1940, seat belts in 1949, optional headrests in 1959, the Double-Safety brake system in 1962, and pre-set impulse door-locking system in 1968."
