Arthur Klein
Portrait of Arthur Klein, wearing military uniform. Typed on back: "American aviator in Sweepstakes Race. Lieut. Arthur Klein returns from France to pilot a Peugeot in the Indianapolis 500 mile Liberty Sweepstakes, May 31. Klein is a full fledged pilot, having achieved his R.M.A. rating and pilot's license shortly after his arrival in France, where, at Issoudoun, in the capacity of engineering officer, he had a larger number of Liberty planes under his supervision than were stationed at any other European aviation camp. When the armistice was signed, Lieut. Klein was in process of being assigned to a pursuit squadron and sent to the front. That the war ended before he had an opportunity to demonstrate his valor in actual combat will always be his one regret." Handwritten on back: "Biography--Klein, Arthur."
