Handwritten on mat back: "Fairbanks (?) Woman's Relief Corps #17. Banquet in G.A.R. hall - Detroit." WRC was a women's auxiliary to the Grand Army of the Republic, dedicated to relieving the sufferings of disabled veterans, war widows, and orphans.
