Arch resting on columns, spanning Fort St. Handwritten on mat back: "G.A.R. in Detroit in 1891. The Arch of Peace, across Fort St. near Griswold Street. Designed by William Wright. Mottoes furnished by Joseph Greusel. On the west side: 'Cheerily on, courageous friends, to reap the harvest of perpetual peace!' On the east side: 'Their prowess gave us peace, undying be their fame!'" Wm. Wright Company decorators and designers in 1890 Detroit City Directory.
