Flint River, Montrose, Michigan
View of the Flint River in Montrose, Michigan. Printed on front: "No. 7." Label on back: "This is a view of the Flint River taken from the bridge looking north or down stream. The river enters Montrose township on its southern side about midway between its eastern and western edge. It flows in a southerly direction through the township dividing it into two nearly equal parts. The river has been an important factor in developing the township as it has made an easy method of conveying the pine, with which the township was, at one time, heavily timbered, to market. As high as 3,000,000 feet of pine have been 'banked' along the river in this township during a single season and rafted down to Saginaw and Bay City. The river has a great variation in depth at different seasons of the year, during the summer months it is so shoal as to be readily fordable, but during the spring months, when swelled by the rains and melting snow, it is very deep."
