On Ford's left is Gaston Plaintiff, Ford Motor Company's New York branch manager. Driver Frank Kulick is second to right, with his back to the camera. Handwritten on back: "Ford, Life, May-June, 1971, p. 13. Henry Ford in goggles waits while mechanics work on the Model K [sic] racer before his unsuccessful, Aug. 1905, attempt to lower the world's record. At left is Gaston Plaintiff, the company's New York branch manager." Handwritten on back: "Ford, 1905."
